Bushell and Meadows Wireless DNC-Max V5 - One year on

Bushell and Meadows Ltd specialise in high quality precision sub contract manufacturing. Their team provides CNC machining solutions to sectors such as the Medical, Aerospace, Defence and Industrial markets.

The company currently employs 28 staff in a new facility based in Tewkesbury Gloucestershire.

Back in January 2005, J2com Ltd was approached to implement a DNC solution which would be required when Bushell and Meadows Ltd moved to there brand new 20,000sq ft factory in April of that year. With most of the plans in place to move the CNC machine tools it was our job to install a DNC system efficiently and with the minimum of disruption to the relocation of the machines.

After careful consideration both parties decided that a Wireless DNC system was the logical optimum solution as a substantial amount of work could be performed at the old site, replacing the old redundant DNC system with new equipment before the main move which significantly reduced the amount of integration time at the new site. As the CNC machines were moved to the new site, the operators could immediately access the NC programs from the main database and load them remotely which meant the downtime was minimized.

The operators found that the Wireless DNC-Max V5 Remote System was easy to operate and before long could see the benefits of a centralized database management system and off line editing and processing. The management saw cost savings with less downtime and better traceability of NC programs.

A total of fifteen CNC Mills and CNC Lathes which are fitted with various controls such as Fadal, Haas and Fanuc are running on this system.

Bushell and Meadows Ltd also use Cimco Edit V5.1 to create and edit the NC programs from the CNC machines for issue changes and improved manufacturing methods which can be proved out and validated off line and then loaded up to run the job via the Wireless DNC network when the operator is ready to proceed.

We keep close ties with many members of staff to ensure they are happy with our products. The new system has been in place and running for over 12 months now and we are pleased to say we have not had any day to day running problems with its operational use.

The new system delivers an effective but simple solution, eliminated any cabling and thus less clutter in our new engineering facility. Simplicity in storing and saving NC programs remotely, editing and tracking NC programs from Pc to Machine and Machine to Pc was what we needed in place to progress forward in an ever competitive market.
